Counting the Omer 2021 - Day Forty-two

Day Forty-two

4th of Sivan 5781 – from sundown on May 14th to sundown on May 15th, 2021
Shabbat - Parashat Bamidbar

Begin by reciting the following blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.

Recite the day of the count:

היום שנים וארבעים יום שהם ששה שבועות לעמר
Hayom shnaim v'arba'im yom, sh'hem shishah shavuot la'omer.
Today is the forty-second day, making six weeks of the Omer.
Psalm 67:  (NKJV)
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us. Selah. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.  Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Selah  Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us.  God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Psalm 105:1-11
Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones! He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth. He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac, And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance…"
Prayer for day 42:
Our Father, we implore You, by the awesome power of Your right hand, accept the prayers of your people; strengthen and purify us, Awesome and Mighty King of the Universe, we beseech you, that You guard as the apple of Your eye Your people Israel.  Bless them, cleanse them; bestow upon them forever Your merciful kindness. Powerful, Holy One, we humbly ask that You Strengthen us! Give us courage to stand against the evil powers of this world and the forces of darkness. Heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood and help our nation to turn back to you. Accept our supplication and hear our cry, You who knows the secret thoughts. Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever.
Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the forty-second day of the counting of the omer, we remember how Moses after the defeat of the Amalekites, built an altar and called it “the Lord is my banner”. And we remember how Yeshua before He ascended into heaven instructed his disciples to remain in Jerusalem where all who believed in Him would receive the Holy Spirit. We humbly ask that You in the same way, strengthen our resolve to wait patiently for the great harvest to come and the wondrous signs you will perform on the great day of Pentecost, Shavuot, in the future. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how Moses built an altar and called it:  Y'hovah  יָהוֶה   - Nissî  נִסִּי – “the Lord is my banner,” because he said, "Indeed, my hand is lifted up toward the Lord's throne."

Yehovah יָהוֶה  Nissî  נִסִּי  is also rendered as "The Lorde is he that worketh miracles for me" In the Bishop's Bible, Circa 1568.

The Sefirot for day forty-two is: Malchut of Yesod: Kingship (nobility) in Bonding. It is in the bond between a husband and wife and between a King and his subjects or a commander and his soldiers and between a mother and her child that true nobility of character can be best be seen. Though Paul reminds us that this is truly a mystery, it is why a marriage is a picture of God’s covenant relationship with His people and Christ (the Messiah) and His bride, the church.

Suggested activity for today: Examine how the bond you have with another results in strengths and capabilities that neither of you are able to achieve on your own.

Suggested reading from the weekly Torah portion: BaMidbar – 7th reading: Numbers 4:1-20
Haftarah reading for today: Hosea 2:1 - 2:22; Suggested reading from the Brit Hadashah: Heb 12:23
