Counting the Omer 2021 - Day Forty-one

Day Forty-one

3rd of Sivan 5781 – from sundown on May 13th to sundown on May 14th, 2021

Begin by reciting the blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.

Recite the day of the count:

היום אחד וארבעים יום שהם חמשה שבועות וששה ימים לעמר

Hayom echad v'arba'im yom, sh'hem chamishah shavuot v'shisha yamim la'omer.
Today is the forty-first day, making five weeks and six days of the Omer.

Psalm 67: 1-4a  (NKJV 49 word Paraphrase)
God be merciful to us, Bless us and cause His face to shine upon us. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all the nations.  Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all people praise You. Let them be glad and sing for joy!
Psalm 101
A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, O Lord, I will sing praises. I will behave wisely in a perfect way. Oh, when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart. I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will not know wickedness. Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, Him I will destroy; The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, Him I will not endure. My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, That they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, He shall serve me. He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; He who tells lies shall not continue in my presence. Early I will destroy all the wicked of the land, That I may cut off all the evildoers from the city of the Lord.
Prayer for day 41:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the forty-first day of the counting of the omer, we remember how during the sixth week after their deliverance from bondage, you proved through the miracle of the provision of water from a rock and the defeat of the Amalekites that you would provide for the Israelites in every need and circumstance. And we remember how Yeshua promised His disciples He would be with them always, and promised they would be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days hence. We thank you and we humbly ask that You in the same way, help us to trust your provision for our every need and protect us from every danger and threat in our lives today. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how God insures victory over the Amalekites - the archetypal enemy of the Jewish people.  And how Yeshua commanded His disciples to go and make disciples among all who will accept His message. Are you one of His disciples?

The Sefirot for day forty-one is: Yesod of Yesod: Bonding (foundation) in Bonding. We are all capable of and need to bond with others. We do not fully understand why, but we know that God wants to be in relationship with us as a community of believers, not just as individuals. If there are obstacles that are preventing you from forming bonding relationships with others such as inability to trust due to past experiences of injury, hurt or abuse you must ask the question “How do I cultivate the capacity to bond with others?”

Suggested activity for today: Commit to spending time regularly with a person with whom you would like to form a new bonding relationship. This is a challenge when we are isolated from one another as we are today. But there are many opportunities to spend time with others through phone, text, video chat, social media and even in person - at an acceptable "social distance."

Suggested reading from the weekly Torah portion: BaMidbar – 6th reading: Numbers 3:40-51
Haftarah reading for today: Hosea 1:10-2:20
Suggested reading from the Brit Hadashah: Luke 2:21-35
