Counting the Omer 2020 - Day Forty-seven

Day Forty-seven

9th of Sivan 5781 – from sundown on May 19th to sundown on May 20th, 2021

Begin by reciting the following blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.

Recite the day of the count:

היום שבעה וארבעים יום שהם ששה שבועות וחמשה ימים לעמר
Hayom shivah v'arba'im yom, sh'hem shishah shavuot v'chamishah yamim la'omer.
Today is the forty-seventh day, making six weeks and five days of the Omer.

Psalm 67: 4-7 (NKJV 49 word Paraphrase)
Let the peoples praise You, God; For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern all the nations on earth. Let everyone praise You, God; Let all people praise You.  Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, shall bless us, And all the earth shall fear Him.

Psalm 130
A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. My soul waits for the Lord More than those who watch for the morning-- Yes, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He shall redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Prayer for day 47:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the forty-seventh day of the counting of the omer, we remember your bountiful kindnesses to the Israelites, how before you brought them to you on the mountain, the people were to consecrate themselves, wash their clothes and to refrain from intimate relations for three days and that on the third day the You would come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. We humbly ask that You in the same way, sanctify us and allow us to wash our garments, and prepare our hearts to be your special treasure, your bride. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how the people were told to consecrate themselves, wash their clothes and to refrain from sexual relations for three days and that on the third day the Lord would come down upon Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. How the people were not to go up on the mountain or touch its base until they heard a long trumpet blast, then they were to come near the mountain

The Sefirot for Day forty-seven is: Hod of Malchut: Humility (gratitude) in Kingship (Nobility). In exercising leadership, we must humbly acknowledge that the responsibility we have been given is a gift and we did not earn it.  In order for leaders to be accepted and respected they must never be arrogant. Remember Yeshua’s words "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave-- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." [Matthew 20:25-28]

Suggested activity for today: Demonstrate your nobility in leadership by purposefully choosing to be last or to have everyone else be given preference over you.
