Day Thirty-six
27th of Iyyar 5781 – from sundown on May 8th to sundown on May 9th, 2021 Mother's Day
Begin by reciting the blessing:
ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום ששה ושלשים יום שהם חמשה שבועות ויום אחד לעמר
Hayom shishah u-shloshim yom, sh'hem chamishah shavuot v'yom echad la'omer.
Today is the thirty-sixth day, making five weeks and one day of the Omer.
Psalm 67: 1-4a (NKJV 49 word Paraphrase)
God be merciful to us, Bless us and cause His face to shine upon us. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all the nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all people praise You. Let them be glad and sing for joy!
Psalm 94: 12-22:
Blessed is the man whom You instruct, O Lord, And teach out of Your law, That You may give him rest from the days of adversity, Until the pit is dug for the wicked. For the Lord will not cast off His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance. But judgment will return to righteousness, And all the upright in heart will follow it. Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? Unless the Lord had been my help, My soul would soon have settled in silence. If I say, "My foot slips," Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul. Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You? They gather together against the life of the righteous, And condemn innocent blood. But the Lord has been my defense, And my God the rock of my refuge.
Prayer for day 36:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the thirty-sixth day of the counting of the omer, we remember your bountiful kindnesses to the Israelites, how you provided the miracle of manna for them as they journeyed in the Wilderness of Sin and how Yeshua sent the disciples to the Mount of Olives where He would meet with them to give them His final instructions. We humbly ask that You in the same way, remind us of your provision for all we need and commune with us so that we may receive and follow your instructions for our lives. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how ... The Israelites journeyed from the Wilderness of Sin and camped at Dophkah. The eleven disciples went to the Mount of Olives as Yeshua had directed them.
Suggested selections for further reading: 1 Cor 13:1-2
The Sefirot for day thirty-six is: Chesed of Yesod: Love (Loving-kindness) in Bonding. Making a bond with another person can only be possible where there is genuine love, but this kind of love should not be confused with physical desire or lust. If we are having a problem making a connection with someone, we must examine the motivation.
Suggested activity for today: Demonstrate the bond you have with someone close to you, such as your spouse or a child, or a parent, through an act of sacrificial love.
Suggested reading from the weekly Torah portion: BaMidbar – 1st reading: Numbers 1:1-19
Suggested reading from the Brit Hadashah and the Prophets: Luke 2:1-7; Hosea 1:10-20
