Day Thirty-eight
29th of Iyyar 5781 – from sundown on May 10th to sundown on May 11th, 2021
Begin by reciting the blessing:
ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום שמונה ושלשים יום שהם חמשה שבועות ושלשה ימים לעמר
Hayom sh'monah u-shloshim yom, sh'hem chamishah shavuot ushloshah yamim la'omer.
Today is the thirty-eighth day, making five weeks and three days of the Omer.
Psalm 67: (NKJV)
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us. Selah. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Selah Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Psalm 96:
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song! Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless His name; Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before Him; Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary. Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness! Tremble before Him, all the earth. Say among the nations, "The Lord reigns; The world also is firmly established, It shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples righteously." Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; Let the sea roar, and all its fullness; Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.
Prayer for day 38:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the thirty-eighth day of the counting of the omer, we remember the Israelites, how when they camped at Rephidim, where there was no water, contended with Moses who cried out to You, and how You gave him instructions for getting water from the rock in Horeb for the people. We humbly ask that You forgive us when we grumble and complain and contend with your servants in our midst and we thank you that you have provided “rivers of living water”, which is your Holy Spirit through Yeshua for all who believe and call upon His Name. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how while camped at Rephidim, where there was no water to drink, the people contentious and about to stone Moses and they tempted the Lord, saying, "Is the Lord among us or not?" And how Yeshua asked His followers to remain in Jerusalem where they would receive the outpouring of the Ruach ha Kodesh – the Holy Spirit.
