Counting the Omer 2020 - Day Sixteen

Day Sixteen

3rd of Iyyar 5780 – from sundown on April 26th to sundown on April 27, 2020

Begin by reciting the blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום ששה-עשר יום שהם שני שבועות ושני ימים לעמר
Hayom shishah-asar yom, sh'hem shnei shavuot ushnei yamim la'omer.
Today is the sixteenth day, making two weeks and two days of the Omer.
Psalm 67:  (NKJV)
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us. Selah.
That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.  Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Selah.
Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us.  God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Psalm 119:121-128    ע          Ayin
I have done justice and righteousness; Do not leave me to my oppressors. Be surety for Your servant for good; Do not let the proud oppress me. My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation and Your righteous word. Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, And teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies. It is time for You to act, O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void. Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold! Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right; I hate every false way.

 Prayer for day 16:
Our Father, we implore You, by the awesome power of Your right hand, accept the prayers of your people; strengthen and purify us, Awesome and Mighty King of the Universe, we beseech you, that You guard as the apple of Your eye Your people Israel.  Bless them, cleanse them; bestow upon them forever Your merciful kindness. Powerful, Holy One, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Accept our supplication and hear our cry, You who knows the secret thoughts. Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever.
Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify us from all our defects and defilement. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified with your unimaginable holiness. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be bestowed upon all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every failure and blemish, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the sixteenth day of the counting of the omer, we remember your bountiful kindnesses to your children, how you delivered them from their enslavement in Egypt, and then brought them to a place where they could begin to learn how to be the chosen people you intended them to be. And we remember how nearly 1500 years later, you raised your blessed son, our savior and Lord, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, Jesus the Messiah, from the ravages of death and how He met with the apostles by the Sea of Tiberius, and performed the miracle of the catch of 153 fish. And we exult in the joy of His victory over the grave and how He began to prepare His disciples to declare the Good News of His great love and redeeming work for all Mankind and to all the World. We humbly ask that You refine us and in every way make us worthy to continue this great work today in our time. Amen.

After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on the mystery of the catch of the 153 fish and the restoration of Simon Peter and that we may realize our full potential and God's amazing plan for our lives.
