Counting the Omer 2021 - Day Eighteen

Day Eighteen

9th of Iyyar 5781 – from sundown on April 20th to sundown on April 21st, 2021

Begin by reciting the blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום שמונה-עשר יום שהם שני שבועות וארבעה ימים לעמר
Hayom shmonah-asar yom, sh'hem shnei shavuot v'arba'a yamim la'omer.
Today is the eighteenth day, making two weeks and four days of the Omer.
Psalm 67:  (NKJV)
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us.    Selah.
That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.  Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth.    Selah

Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.  Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us.  God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Psalm 119:145-152    ק          Kof
I cry out with my whole heart; Hear me, O Lord! I will keep Your statutes. I cry out to You; Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies. I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word. Hear my voice according to Your loving-kindness; O Lord, revive me according to Your justice. They draw near who follow after wickedness; They are far from Your law. You are near, O Lord, And all Your commandments are truth. Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.
Prayer for day 18:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the eighteenth day of the counting of the omer, we remember your bountiful kindnesses to your children, how you delivered them from their enslavement in Egypt, and then brought them to a place of rest at Elim where they became complacent and self-satisfied. And we remember how nearly 1500 years later, you raised your blessed son, our savior, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, from the tyranny of death and how He, being the first fruits of the born-again, met with the apostles by the Sea of Tiberius, and while they were hungry, performed the miracle of the great catch of fish, rejoicing in His victory over the grave and how He began to prepare them to declare the Good News of His great love and redeeming work for all Mankind and to all the World. We humbly ask that You in the same way, refine us and in every way make us worthy to continue this great work today in our time. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on the mysterious miracle of the catch of one hundred and fifty-three fish and on the restoration of Simon Peter. Pray that God will allow you to realize your full potential and His amazing plan for your life.

The Sefirot for Day eighteen is: Netzach of Tiferet: Endurance in Beauty (compassion). Endurance of the kind that fosters continual spiritual growth is in every way beautiful to behold. As Paul wrote to the Messianic Jews, “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”. [Hebrews 12:1]

Suggested activity for today: During this day take a moment and call someone that needs a compassionate word or one of encouragement.

Suggested reading from the weekly Torah portion: Acharei Mot/Kedoshim – 4th reading: Leviticus 18:22-19:14; Suggested reading from the Brit HadashahRom 1:26-28; Gen 4:8-16; Ezek 9:3-11; Mat 5:33-37; 1Pet 1:13-16
