Intentional Communities

For some years now I have been extremely interested in the concept of Co-housing and recently I began to connect with others who are also interested in building intentional community. In the near future I will begin to explore what it means to be in an "intentional community" and why this is a particularly important time to begin thinking about building communities of this kind, especially communities of faith with shared goals and vision. In addition we will explore important issues such as organizational framework, decision-making,  obtaining and sharing financial and material resources, forming community based business ventures including community supported agriculture, and creating well-rounded communities which optimize individual skills, passions and knowledge. Another area we will consider is how in the context of community building one might attempt to address critical social issues such as under-employment and the need for emergency and low-cost housing as a response to an increasing homeless population. We will also look at other faith-based intentional communities and explore differences and reasons why they are successful or in some cases not successful. In the process it is my intention to also create a mechanism, possibly another website, where people who are interested in forming intentional communities may network with other like-minded individuals and groups. Finally, I will provide links to other organizations and online resources related to this topic. Stay tuned for this exciting and timely series of posts coming shortly.
