Day Thirty-two
23rd of Iyyar 5781 – from sundown on May 4th to sundown on May 5th, 2021
Begin by reciting the blessing:
ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום שנים ושלשים יום שהם ארבעה שבועות וארבעה ימים לעמר
Hayom shnaim u-shloshim yom, sh'hem arba'ah shavuot v'arba'ah yamim la'omer.
Today is the thirty-second day, making four weeks and four days of the Omer.
Psalm 67: (NKJV)
God be merciful to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us. Selah. That Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Oh, let the nations be glad and sing for joy! For You shall judge the people righteously, And govern the nations on earth. Selah Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Then the earth shall yield her increase; God, our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, And all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.
Psalm 90: 1-10:
A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn man to destruction, And say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a watch in the night. You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up: In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers. For we have been consumed by Your anger, And by Your wrath we are terrified. You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance. For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Prayer for day 32:
Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You preserve and protect Your people who are called by your holy Name. Forgive us, shine your face on us and heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood. Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the thirty-second day of the counting of the omer, we remember how, when the children of Israel grumbled for something to eat, You provided Manna but instructed them to gather only enough for one day – no more and no less. We humbly ask that You help us to eliminate greed in our lives and the desire for more than we need. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how the Israelites were taught to only gather what they needed for today and to patiently wait on God for tomorrow's need just as Yeshua said: "Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans strive after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."
The Sefirot for day thirty-two is: Netzach of Hod: Endurance in Humility (gratitude). The more good works that we do, the more we will be tempted to think that we are somehow better than others who do not do as much as we do. It takes discipline in humility to resist this temptation to think better of ourselves.
