Day Thirty-five
26th of Iyyar 5781 – from sundown on May 7th to sundown on May 8th, 2021
Shabbat - Parashat Behar-Bechukotai
Begin by reciting the blessing:
ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.
Recite the day of the count:
היום חמשה ושלשים יום שהם חמשה שבועות לעמר
Hayom chamishah u-shloshim yom, sh'hem chamishah shavuot la'omer.
Today is the thirty-fifth day, making five weeks of the Omer.
Psalm 67: (Jubilee Bible 2000)
God be merciful unto us and bless us and cause his face to shine upon us. Selah.
That thy way may be known upon the earth, thy saving health among all the Gentiles. Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise thee. O let the Gentiles be glad and sing for joy, for thou shalt judge the people righteously and shepherd the Gentiles upon the earth. Selah. Let the peoples praise thee, O God; let all the peoples praise thee. Then shall the earth bring forth her fruit, and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.
Psalm 93: (NKJV)
The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. The floods have lifted up, O Lord, The floods have lifted up their voice; The floods lift up their waves. The Lord on high is mightier Than the noise of many waters, Than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; Holiness adorns Your house, O Lord, forever.
Prayer for day 35:
Our Father, we implore You, by the awesome power of Your right hand, accept the prayers of your people; strengthen and purify us, Awesome and Mighty King of the Universe, we beseech you, that You guard as the apple of Your eye Your people Israel. Bless them, cleanse them; bestow upon them forever Your merciful kindness. Powerful, Holy One, we humbly ask that You Strengthen us! Give us courage to stand against the evil powers of this world and the forces of darkness. Heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood and help our nation to turn back to you. Accept our supplication and hear our cry, יְהוָ֖ה Yehovah, You who knows the secret thoughts. Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever.
Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify and cleanse us. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be granted all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every impurity and evil intent, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.
Abba, father, on this, the thirty-fifth day of the counting of the omer, we remember your kindness to the Israelites, how after you provided the miracle of the Manna and provided a double portion on the sixth day and instructed them not to gather Manna on the Sabbath, how some still went out to gather Manna on the Sabbath. We humbly ask that You in the same way, lovingly correct us when we are intentionally disobedient so that we may learn perfect obedience to your statues and enjoy the true bounty which you have prepared for our lives. Amen.
After the reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how the Israelites failure to observe the Sabbath came from a lack of trust. Help us to recognize that we will never lack anything when we trust in your benevolence.
The Sefirot for Day thirty-five is: Malchut of Hod: Kingship (Nobility) in Humility (Gratitude). Real humility is noble in character. When all the other six aspects of the expression of humility are combined, the result is our elevation to a truly noble condition.
Suggested activity for today: Teach someone about how humility and modesty can enhance their image and improve their relationships with others.
Suggested reading from the weekly Torah portion: Behar/Bechukotai – 7th reading: Lev 27:16-34
Haftarah Reading: Jeremiah 16:19-17:14; Suggested reading from the Brit Hadashah and the Prophets: 1 John 3:1-4:21; 5:1-21; Mal 3:8; Matt 23:23; Heb 12:18-29; Rev 21:3
