Counting the Omer 2021 - Day Two

Day Two

23rd of Nisan 5781 – from sundown on April 4th to sundown on April 5th, 2021

The traditional prayers for the Counting of the Omer are preferably recited after sundown. One begins by reciting the following blessing:

ברוך אתה יהוה אלוהינו , מלך העולם , אשר קדשנו במצותי
וציונו עלי לספירת העומר
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha'Olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav
v'tizivanu al sefirat ha'omer.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with your commandments and commanded us to count the omer.

After the blessing, one recites the appropriate day of the count.
היום  שני ימים לעומר
Hayom Sheni yamim la'omer
Today is two days of the omer.

After the reciting the day of the count, read Psalm 67: (ESV)

May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us, Selah

that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.

Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth. Selah

Let the peoples praise you,
O God; let all the peoples praise you!

The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, shall bless us.

God shall bless us;
let all the ends of the earth fear him!
After the reciting Psalm 67, recite Psalm 119: 9-16: (NKJV)       ב          Beit
How can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.  With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!  Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!  Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes!  With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth.  I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.  I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.
Prayer for day 2
Our Father, we implore You, by the awesome power of Your right hand, accept the prayers of your people; strengthen and purify us, bless us and cleanse us. Awesome and Mighty King of the Universe, we beseech you, that You guard as the apple of your eye your people Israel. Bestow upon them Your merciful kindness. Powerful, Holy One, in Your abounding goodness, preserve and protect all who are mindful of You and trust in You. Strengthen us and give us courage to stand against all the forces of darkness that call good 'evil' and evil 'good.' Heal our land that has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood and help our nation to turn back to you. Accept our supplication and hear our cry, You who knows our secret thoughts. Blessed be the name and the glory of Your kingdom forever and ever.

Sovereign of the universe, You have commanded us through Moses Your servant to count the days of the omer, in order to purify us from our evil inclination and so that the souls of your people may be cleansed from their defilement. Therefore, may it be Your will, Lord our God and God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that in the counting of the omer which I (we) have counted today, I (we) may be purified and sanctified with your unimaginable holiness. And through my (our) obedience to your commandments, may Your abundant bounty be bestowed upon all the world. May it rectify our soul and our spirit from every baseness and defect, and may it purify and sanctify us with all your holiness.

Abba, father, on this, the second day of the counting of the omer, we remember your bountiful kindnesses to your children when you delivered them from enslavement in Egypt. And how 1500 years later, you raised your blessed son, our savior, Yeshua Ha Mashiach, from the ravages of death and how He being the firstborn from the dead and given a glorified body, how He through undeserved noble suffering redeemed all who trust in Him and thereby reconciled all the World. We humbly ask that You refine us and make us worthy to serve You today in our time. Amen.

After reciting the prayer, continue to pray and meditate on how the Israelites left Succoth in Egypt carrying Joseph’s bones signaling that they were never to return to Egypt and how God went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to guide.  Meditate how the Israelites took with them all the Silver, Gold and riches of Egypt as prophesied to Abraham 400 years earlier. Think about how the disciples, as instructed by Yeshua, remained near Jerusalem expectantly waiting for the Holy Spirit to arrive. And compare this to the fear and uncertainty in our lives today as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and pray for God to guide us and protect us as He did the Israelites over 3,500 years ago.  Take time to reflect on these things.
